I have to say that I continue to make cards, a lot of cards each week. I tend to work up a design and then make twenty or thirty and vary the cards slightly using different colors, sentiments, and die cuts, etc. I was in my studio the last three evenings and am still putting together my new designs.
Some days I bake, cook, tape a YouTube How To video, and go for a bike ride. I used to get out, drive my car, go to meetings, visit friends, go shopping, and go to the hair salon, etc. Boy, do salons need to open up and soon. To me, and millions of men and women, it is essential. Anyway, this morning I was tasked with going to Costco (like Moscow). My husband is boycotting them at the moment. We needed a boatload of items like walnuts, mozz, and Locatelli. I wore my face mask, and my eyeglasses got fogged up every few minutes. I found it rather annoying and hard to breathe.
Anyway, I got everything off my list, and then checked out the gas situation, as I was under a quarter of a tank. Wow, gas was a mere $1.59/gallon. I can’t remember the price of gas being that low. I’d have to really think back but I honestly can’t recall in the last 20 years gas being this cheap. I punted. I decided to forego Costco gas and headed to Harris Teeter, where I do my normal grocery shopping. Our HT as I call it, also sells gas. The beauty of HT is for every dollar you spend in the store, you get points that can be used to get a discount on gas for you car.
I have a key ring code app and tried to scan that in at the pump to no avail. I checked with the attendant and he told me to punch in my home phone number, which I did. Usually, I save .03 a gallon, but sometimes you can get more off the price if you’ve got a lot of fuel points. Well, get this. Gas was going for $1.79 which was .20 more than Costco. Oops, I thought. I should have filled up at Costco. It was too late as I wasn’t driving back there, as it’s 20+ minutes away. So, I selected regular, inserted my credit card and waited. To my shock and surprise, the price came up as .79. Yes, that’s right, seventy nine cents a gallon. Smiling to myself in disbelief, I waited a few seconds to see if I had misread the monitor. I hit the button and nothing happened so I shook my head, and then to my delight, the .79 price lit up in red and I filled up my tank.
I felt like I had hit the jackpot as it cost me about $10 to fill up my tank. This was unbelievable. I couldn’t wait to get home to share this with my husband and daughter. It was just so crazy.
So, when you take a break from crafting, sometimes really good stuff happens. Today was one of those days where after being in lockdown for a week or more, getting out was a positive albeit odd experience. Needless to say, I headed into my studio after dinner and spent another few hours stamping, cutting and designing DSP strip cards using multiple colors, and fronts and backs. I’ve added punched balloons and butterflies and varied the sentiments. I will post these when they’re all completed.
If you get out of your lockdown setting, go fill up your tank. It will excite you and you’ll be energized to get working on your cards because they’re calling you! You might even check out the new catalog on line (I did) and see what you can buy, now that you’re saving so much at the pump!
