If you’re like me, you save your paper scraps. I have trouble throwing stuff out, unless the scraps are really tiny or simply unusable in some way. So, the rest of my scraps are left on the table by my paper cutters, and they pile up over time. Yes, I’ve got DSP scraps, vellum scraps, small skinny strips, and more all collecting dust and never making it to the rubbish bin.
I always use a small heart punch and punch out hearts from small scraps which I then use as confetti in birthday cards. I also punch out balloons and butterflies. You can use these on projects, or just add a bunch in that card you’re going to send and have a little fun.
Now, for other scraps, be it strips or otherwise, I want to share two fun ideas for making cool cards with scraps. The first one has an interesting design and layout and takes a little patience. The second one is simple, all the strips are on the diagonal or horizontal/vertical. You can see samples in my Creative Ideas/Projects Gallery: https://www.rhondakamoroso.com/ogs-projects/. I am going to highlight the Namaste card which is one of my favs: https://www.rhondakamoroso.com/ogs-projects/
Fun Layout-Namaste sample. For this card you’ll need: standard card base (pink), 5 1/2 by 8 1/2; Inner layer (melon mambo) 4 x 5 1/2; White base for the scraps 3 3/4 x 5; DSP strips 1/4 x 6; small punched or diecut label; twine/ribbon, gems or rhinestones, adhesive, glue dots, and dimensionals. Use what’s on that table of yours-no need to cut new paper.
Adhere snail or Stampin’ seal on the white base. Take a 6″ strip and place it diagonally in the center of the white base. Place another strip diagonally below and another strip diagonally above your central strip. Take another strip and place it 90 degrees. Do this above and below the center strip until you have filled up all the space. Trim the sides with snips. The center strip will be the longest. From there the strips will continue to reduce in size. Once done, adhere this to the melon mambo with snail or seal. Then adhere the mambo to the pink base with dimensionals. Stamp your small label in razzleberry. Add some pink rhinestones. Adhere with dimensionals. Add a small pink twine bow to the side of the label with glue dots.
As I said, this design takes a little time, but the payoff is worth it. This is an absolutely amazing card and I encourage you to use any DSP sitting around. Go ahead and cut the correct size strips and use fronts and back of the DSP for an amazing look.
I hope you will try making cards with your scraps. If you want something simple, see the rest of my project gallery for inspiration. Sometimes it’s fun to immerse yourself in a more involved project as it gives you a chance to see how really creative you can be.
Have fun and use some of those scraps that are calling for you. Don’t let them collect any more dust or they will find their way to the rubbish bin!
